Why I Write?

writing

Words are magic!

I learnt that as a child. I loved how books would take me to different worlds without me having to move from my place. I have traveled to faraway places & sometimes magical places , from Afghanistan ( The Kite Runner ) to the Forbidden Forest (Harry Potter Series) all because of the beautiful words written by some amazing authors.

Writers I feel sometimes are like Wizards without the Pointy hats! They swish their writing wands & off we go somewhere! I knew I wanted to be one of them.

I have the soul of a writer, I realized that a long time ago.

It was my love of reading that made me want to write. I have so many stories within me that I just have a need to share! At first it started with Travel Writing, first in my Journal & more recently with my Travel Blog! Check it out here.

However that seemed restrictive! There was so much more to write about!

With that intention I started this Personal Blog. A place for me to share the world’s within me with you.

Why I write you ask ?

The best way to describe it is in the words of Gloria Stinem, She says “Writing is the only thing, that when I do it, I don’t feel I should be doing something else”.

It makes me feel alive. Like I could do this all day every day!

I just have so much to say! I do not know if my words are right in the literary way. They are just my observations, my emotions & feelings coming out on paper (or in this case Computer screen).

Sometimes I write with the hope that my writing will help somebody in a some way. Bring a smile to their face. Or as is the case with some travel posts of mine, bring back happy memories.( I love when my readers share their memories & experiences with me! )

You know what makes me really happy when it comes to my Travel Blog?

I have had so many people write to me, how because of personal reasons, they are unable to travel. They say they travel with me through my blog post everywhere I go.

It makes me feel happy to take people to faraway places through my writings. ( Be a wizard without the pointy hat myself!!! Yaayyy!! )

Have them experience joy for the time they read my post.

I write for the Joy of it & Hopefully to bring Joy to others!

I write because that’s what I really want to do.

I write because its my happy place!

  1. When I was in college, being a lawyer crossed my mind, however, being a writer – I can say I am not that keen on it although I may dream of it because I really admire authors for like you I love to read. It indeed brings us to magical places, let us learn things we may never have a chance to if we didn’t read about them. I can say with your purpose in writing, you are showing unconditional love to your readers. Keep writing! As Anand said, you may really have more readers here. 🙂 I think you are right, your being a lawyer can also be another type of service and it will help you give a different perspective, thus improve your writing. If you can do both and you love it then go, go, go 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! You can do that too! As Maya Angelou says, ” When you know better, you do better “.
I love writing & would love to make a difference in my little way. I enjoy the interaction on such posts & hearing other people’s stories. And yes, Anand might be right. In a week’s time my readership has almost reached a 100. 🙂

  2. Joy. Transport to faraway places. Magic. Connecting with your readers, whoever or wherever they be. I smile just reading your “About,” Arpita. I can only assume the world will lose a good lawyer one day, when you are finally able to take the plunge to writing full-time! But we’ll be better off, by far, for we’ll have gained a world-class storyteller.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! I am heading down that path slowly & steadily I feel. Being a lawyer somehow makes me better story teller I feel, I see the suffering of people very closely.

    1. Hi,
      Thanks Anand!
The thing is the other blog is meant specifically for Travel. I want to keep it that way. But I am into so many other things as well & I really enjoy Blogging, so got a new one. Both blogs will remain active!

  3. You know what, many people prolong a plunge into their long cherished activities; the reason being, I guess, that gives them a hope to live for!
There is a fear – if we realize every wish at the outset, probably we may land up in a vacuum. Alas… Many dreams pass with the eyes of the beholder.
Hence, I feel, a travelogue is an opportunity for so many people among us, to live the dreams vicariously.
Good luck with all your endeavors!

    1. That’s so true. I guess so many of us are really afraid of actually wanting to do what we really want to do. I have loved Travelogues myself, before i started traveling & writing my own.
      Thanks for stopping by!
      Regards,
      Arpita!

I hope you can manage the two blogs! I seriously considered merging my two, but after lots of great feed back, kept them as is….but I see a day I won’t be traveling….in a few decades! I hope….

    1. Thank you! The thing is, when I take up courses like Blogging101 & writing101, I cant go beyond the limitations of the Travel Blog. And I am loving blogging too much I guess! Even I hope I manage 2 blogs well! Hows the lovely grandson? 🙂

      1. You have an author in your horoscope. I don’t know if it’s a travel author. Your chart says you will be an all knowing author, so there. Thanks for interest in my post, which is a teeny-weeny post without any quotes or research lol 😀 😀
